Green websites merge
Two major environment and business websites joined forces in early February to stimulate the growth of a global sustainable economy. The partnership is between the Global Environment & Technology Foundation (GETF) and Sustainable Business.com (SB.com). The idea of cooperation came from the recognition that specialised sites will be as essential in the future as major search engines are today. Some of the services newly available from the websites include the Green Dream Jobs database by SB.com, an extensive collection of career opportunities in the world of sustainable business, and the daily news services provided by Earth VisionŞ, a member of the GETF website family. USAID online roundup
The U.S. Agency for International Development has launched a website with detailed descriptions of what they have done for the environment in Central and Eastern Europe and in the Newly Independent States of the former Soviet Union. The user-friendly pages offer reports on projects, detailed descriptions of technical issues and program evaluations. Information can be located by country, environmental issue or project name. As many as 22 countries are covered on the site and environmental issues vary from business development to waste minimisation to sustainable agriculture. It also has a link to a newsletter covering USAIDŐs projects in the region with all the back issues kept online. Visit <www.eni-environment.net>.
Knock on EBRDŐs nuclear projects
Although this websiteŐs address is <www.ebrd.net>, it is not the official homepage for the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). Actually, itŐs the site for the European Bank for Radiation Development; a homepage devoted to criticising a project near completion for nuclear power plants at Rivne and Khmelnitsky in the Ukraine. It points out that these two EBRD-funded projects are not the only ones to have negative impact on the environment. Much background information can be found in these pages both from the bank and from different green activist groups such as Greenpeace. Visitors can also look at gloomy views of the nuclear plants.
