Three new faces arrived at the REC's Information Exchange Department this quarter. TOM POPPER, with over 10 years of professional journalism experience, signed on as Project Officer with the newly launched Media Information Service. KATALIN DEMETER came from the Hungarian National Agricultural Library to serve as the REC's new librarian, replacing Csilla Ilkei who left in January. And DANIEL MCADAMS, a journalist with an NGO background in Hungary, is the department's new Communications Officer and editorial assistant.
Taking over for the departing Seiichi Mimura as Director of the Japan Special Fund and Senior Advisor to the Executive Director is HIROYUKI GOTO, who comes to the REC from the Japanese Embassy in Budapest.
STEPHEN STEC, an American lawyer and founder of the Environmental Law Program of the Central and East European Law Initiative (CEELI), joined the REC to work on law-related projects.
MIRA MILEVA joined the REC in March, coming from Bulgaria's Ministry of Environment to take up the Biodiversity Project's Manager post. KRISZTINA WEGNER also joined the REC in March to become Receptionist and Administrative Clerk for the Administration Unit.
BLERTA MALIQI came from the Albanian Local Office to become Officer in the Local Office Outreach Department (LOOD), as did VERONIKA DIVISOVA who joins us from the Czech Republic.
Two new REC interns include MARIANNA BOLSHAKOVA from Ukraine and KELLY DUFFY from Canada.
Changing places
ALEXANDER JURAS became second in charge for the REC, taking the new post as Deputy Executive Director in January. In February SOLIS IOANNOU stepped forward to Head the Capacity Building Department, replacing the outgoing Laszlo Karas. PAUL CSAGOLY became the new Head of the Information Exchange Department and MIROSLAV CHODAK was named Head of the Programs Department in January. Other movers and shakers include MOZES KISS, who became Head of the Personnel Unit; JUDIT NAGY, who became Travel Officer; HAJNALKA RAB, who moved over to the Personnel Office; and KRISZTINA MAJOROS, who became Project Assistant in the Programs Department, replacing Judith Balogh. ZOLTAN TOTH, a former intern, became a Project Officer with the REC LEAPs project.
ZOLTAN KASSA and ALICA BACULAK departed from LOOD Head Office for new horizons in Budapest.
Local office changes
SIMONA SULCOVA, coming from the Czech Helsinki Committee, took over the Czech Local Office (LO). TUULI RASSO replaced KATRIN UNT as Estonian LO chief. ILONA SKANGALE, a biologist, came to LO Latvia as a Project Manager. REC's LO in Bosnia saw the arrival of SUNITA BULJUBASIC as an assistant. MARTA KACZYNSKA has come to LO Poland as a Project Officer and RASTISLAV VRBENSKY has come on board the Slovak LO as a Project Manager. AGATA POCZMAN has replaced ULA GODLEWSKA as Clerical Assistant in Poland. Outgoing LO people include HELENA MARKOVA in Prague, HELENA BENKOVA in Slovakia and JURIS CELMINS from Latvia.
