Energy Efficiency launch

The Alliance to Save Energy (Washington, D.C.) in partnership with the REC launched the Energy Efficiency Project this spring, geared to developing NGO capacity in the area of energy efficiency in Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and Romania. Funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development, the three-year project will assist NGOs in developing marketing materials, creating mission statements, developing projects and improving fundraising capabilities. It will also work to create linkages between NGOs working in the energy efficiency field and to increase private sector involvement in energy efficiency. The REC hopes to develop its own energy efficiency capabilities through its partnership with the Alliance, and will continue to work in this field throughout the CEE after the project is completed. Eric Carlson comes to the REC as the Alliance's representative and manager for the project. Hailing from Washington, D.C., Eric spent three years working for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on renewable energy projects. Diana Barbu arrived in March from Bucharest, Romania to work with Eric as project officer, having previously worked as a junior engineer for Bucharest's Institute for Energy Research.
