The Business of Sustainable Development
A new Internet site now helps businesses become more environmentally, socially and financially sustainable. Business and Sustainable Development marks the beginning of a two-year project to develop a global information network designed to inform business representatives about corporate trends and market and financing opportunities associated with sustainable development. Drawing from real corporate experiences, and funded by the Canada-Manitoba Infrastructure Works Agreement, the site will grow to include strategies for implementing sustainability, information on the latest banking and investment practices, case studies, environmental industry resources, interviews with business leaders and corporate news. Info-tech talks online
The International Organisation for Information Specialists (IOIS) began its activities in Central and Eastern Europe in 1994, initiated by individuals involved with environmental issues and environmental information management. With some 50 current members, IOIS attracts academics and scientists world-wide interested in how their work is influenced by trends in information science, the availability of distributed electronic networks, information policies, the economics of electronic information, the changing role of librarianship, new electronic means for information creation, global transmission and world-wide use. Subscription to the organisation's discussion list IOIS-L is open to all existing and aspiring IOIS members. The list is not moderated. Rather, various topics arise in which members may be especially competent and who can take a role of leadership in the discussion.
