The REC is an independent, not-for-profit, regional organization devoted to the improvement of the environment in Central and Eastern Europe. The REC was established in 1990 by the United States, Hungary and the Commission of the European Communities. Today, eight additional countries support the REC, including Austria, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Japan, the Netherlands, Norway and Switzerland.
Beneficiary countries are Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, FYR Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia and FR Yugoslavia.
