Perfecting the art of work

Training the enviro-trainers

From June 9-12, selected environmental trainers from across the region had a chance to participate in a Training the Trainers workshop held at REC's Szentendre head office. Entitled "How to Manage an Environmental Organization," the four-day workshop was led by representatives from the US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) and represented the USEPA's debut of the training module worldwide - given its success at the REC, the module will soon be on the move. Attended by 23 participants from eight CEE countries, the workshop focused on how to manage one or more projects, foster personal and professional development, conduct business outside the CEE region and respond to frequent change. Training included the presentation of a step-by-step framework which can be used to carry out the successful management of environmental organizations, from creating a common vision to setting goals to checking progress. A special session was also devoted to improving facilitation skills and helping managers with employees who tend to be inactive, who challenge their facilitator or who just fail to have any source of natural motivation.
