In order to improve the capacity and skills of young CEE environmentalists and their NGOs to deal with organizational and management problems, the REC established the Junior Fellowship Program (JFP) in 1993. The JFP has proven to be one of the REC's most popular initiatives.
Junior Fellows follow a four-week program of integrated and interactive workshops at REC's head office in Szentendre which address the particular needs of the region and its younger NGO members including: project management, community action planning, NGO management, campaign strategy, media work and communication skills, fundraising, public participation, strategic planning, understanding NGOs' role in civil society, using computers, and more. Fellows can develop products individually tailored toward their personal or their NGOs' needs. Independent research opportunities also exist, as does the possibility of working part-time on projects with REC Teams or with local NGOs if requested.
Junior Fellows should come from the CEE region, be 20-30 years old, share a strong interest in improving the environmental situation in the CEE region, be active in an environmental NGO, and speak and write English.
