AGATA MIAZGA joined the REC at the beginning of April as the Local Environmental Action Program Manager in the Programs Department. Agata previously worked on the Environmental Action Program for Central and Eastern Europe activities in Poland.
Moving
CHRISTY DUIJVELAAR was promoted to Acting Head of the Grants Department in March.
In April, FERENC FEHER became Project Manager for the Biodiversity Project in the Programs Department, transferring from his former post as Head of the Grants Department.
Going
WENDY MUZZY, the former editor of the Bulletin and Communications Officer, left the REC to return to the US in May to get married.
New faces at local offices
There are two new faces at the Czech Local Office - HELENA KNAPPOVA is the new grants manager and IVANA MALICKA has signed on as the clerical assistant. In the Lithuania Office, GIEDRIUS AUGUSTAITIS is now keeping the financial matters in order, while MORANA BELAMARIC manages the "purse strings" in Croatia. The Slovak Office welcomes a helping hand from civil service volunteer ROBERT SEDLACKO.
Interested in interns?
The REC was proud to host five new interns from across Europe and abroad. In April, PAVLA JINDROVA from the Czech Republic joined the REC's Public Participation team which she will be helping until the end of the summer. Pavla will use this work in the preparation of her thesis on Public Participation Methods for the Central European University, Budapest. In May, the Programs Department welcomed two students from the European Postgraduate Course in Environmental Management (EPCEM) as interns. MARTIN SZENTIVANYI from Slovakia assisted with Local Environmental Action Plan research while STEFAN CRAENEN from the Netherlands helped to organize a Conference for Environmental Managers and Policymakers in CEE at the REC. JORDAN BLACKMAN joined the REC's Programs Department in June, where he is helping with research for UNEP's GEO-2 project. Jordan, originally a New Yorker, is completing a two-year Master's degree at the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS). SANTTU HULKKONEN also arrived in June to assist REC Environment and Management Training Center staff for the summer. Santtu's internship is made possible through a grant from the Institute of Technology of Vaasa in his home country, Finland.
