DAN THOMPSON OF THE US EPA discusses common ground between NGOs and government at the EAP Task Force meeting in Szentendre.


  The REC hosted several visitors from the business sector in February including SANDOR BALINT, Manager of Environmental Affairs, NITROKEMIA Co. Hungary located at the North bank of Lake Balaton, and ALBERT BAGI from Polyamid Yarn, VISCOSA Rt, one of Hungary's leading companies in synthetic fibers, who came to Szentendre to discuss potentials in Environmental Impact Assessment and the standards of the EU approximation.

  Professor ARPAD BAKONYI, Vice President, "Industry for Environment" Foundation in Hungary visited to look into ways to promote environmentally friendly practices in industry and facilitate communication between different sectors of society.

  Following the EAP Task Force meeting in February, US EPA Program Manager DAN THOMPSON stayed on in Szentendre to discuss REC projects to be financed by EPA, including Local Environmental Action Plans.

  JAMES BEVER, Director of Environment, Energy and Urban Development at USAID spent a day getting to know the staff and operations of the REC in March.
