  CHRISTY DUIJVELAAR just can't stay away. After completing her work on the REC Beyond Borders study on East-East NGO cooperation this Spring, Christy returned to the Wageningen Agricultural University to finish her degree. In September, she was awarded a Masters of Agriculture and Natural Environment with a specialization in environmental policymaking. She has now returned to REC as the new Earmarked Grants Coordinator.

  JIRI DUSIK has joined the REC this autumn to lead the work on Environmental Impact Assessments. Before coming to Hungary, Jiri worked as an editor of the Czech, EIA Newsletter which provided practical guidelines for EIA practitioners. He has also worked directly with NGOs in Southern Bohemia on public participation in EIA processes.

  JURG KLARER is also returning to the REC, this time seconded by the Swiss government to assist with the Sofia Initiatives work on Economic Instruments and integration of economic development with environmental protection. Jurg holds a degree from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology and has been working on government technical assistance programs to CEE.

  There's a new voice at the REC, JUDIT NAGY is now on the "front lines" as the receptionist.

Going

  In January, LEE DAVIS will return to the US to continue work as a Research Fellow at the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies in Washington, DC. He'll also continue working with NESST, an NGO he co-founded, focusing on sustainable financing issues for NGOs. His last words: "I'll be back..."

  CURTIS DURRANT is wrapping up his work on the NGO Needs Assessment study. It has been a busy ten months for Curtis who will leave the REC in December to return the US where he works as a recycling specialist at the Washington State Department of Ecology.

New virtual domain

  The REC is now registered as an international organization on the Internet too. Our virtual designation was changed from .hu signifying a Hungarian foundation, to .org. To reach the REC web site now, point your browser to http://www.rec.org. Staff e-mail addresses are also changed. The new addresses use the first initial of the individual's first name and the last (family) name, followed by @rec.org, for example to reach Executive Director Jernej Stritih, send e-mail to jstritih@rec.org.
