The Bulletin
A quarterly of the Regional Environmental Center
for Central and Eastern Europe (REC)

THE BULLETIN is the quarterly newsletter of the Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe. THE BULLETIN assists the REC to fulfill its mandate, namely to promote public participation in environmental decisionmaking by providing information on the environment and encouraging cooperation among Regional stakeholders. By supporting environmental nongovernmental organizations, local authorities, national governments, academic institutions, the Media and businesses in 13 Central and Eastern European countries, the REC hopes to act as a catalyst for developing solutions to environmental problems and to promote the development of civil society in the Region.

The REC is now an independent, international organization established in 1995. Originally, the REC was established in 1990 by Hungary, the United States and the Commission of the European Communities. Seven additional countries also joined the founding sponsors. Beneficiary countries include Albania, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Poland, Romania, the Slovak Republic and Slovenia.

In addition to its head office and local office in Budapest, the REC has local offices and/or representatives in Bratislava, Bucharest, Ljubljana, Prague, Riga, Skopje, Sofia, Tallinn, Tirana, Vilnius, Warsaw and Zagreb.
