The Regional Environmental Center has announced it will host a workshop on Regional Environmental Action in Central and Eastern Europe as part of the Naturexpo Scientific Conference. The workshop will be held in August along the Danube at the REC's new Szentendre site.
"The scope of the workshop will be quite large, encompassing more than just national environmental action plans. It will also include environmental strategies, case studies, local and municipal achievements - basically any of the important environmental initiatives that are taking place in CEE," says REC Initiatives Team Leader Laszlo Karas.
In an effort, to make it possible for experts in the Region to take part in the workshop, the REC is offering small grants to potential participants.
This scientific conference will be held 26-29 August 1996 as part of Naturexpo '96, an international exhibition and trade fair being held 15 August-8 September 1996. The four-day event, chaired by well-known academician Istvan Lang, will center around the sustainable use of natural resources. Major topics will include biodiversity, wildlife management, freshwater fish management and eco-tourism. The conference will also produce the Budapest Declaration, a list of recommendations and a guide for sustainable resource use for policy makers, environmental NGO's, business leaders and research scientists.
According to Noah Steinberg, managing director of Naturexpo '96, the exhibition seeks "to open a dialogue and raise consciousness regarding the all-important issues of nature and the environment." It will showcase all aspects of the natural world, including environmental protection technologies, products, and planning; nature conservation and national park management; eco-tourism; outdoor sports; organically produced products and production; and bio-cosmetics. Special programs will include photo, stamp and art exhibitions, equestrian events and an archery competition.
