ROBERT ATKINSON replaces Paul Kosterink as the new local office and outreach officer. Along with four years of experience at East West Environmental Ltd., Robert brings a bit of Britain to the already international Local Office and Outreach Team.

REC Initiatives hired lawyer LASZLO BENCE as project coordinator of the EU approximation project. His job: to put together a status report comparing Regional environmental legislation with that of the EU. Previously, Laszlo worked at the Phare legal office in the Hungarian Ministry of Environment.

REC Initiatives also welcomes TOMAS HAK as the project coordinator of the Assistance to the Environmental Action Program Approach (AEAPA). A native of the Czech Republic, Tomas has been involved extensively in the environmental movement at both the NGO and the ministerial level.

MONIKA KADAR is doing double duty at the REC. Half her time is spent in the Finance Department, the other half helping the Hungarian local "office." Monika graduated from the Faculty of Foreign Trade at the Karolyi Mihaly Secondary School of Economics.

Welcome aboard to JAMES R. SEBASTIAN, who has volunteered to help develop a communications strategy for the EMTC Network. He has 4 years of experience at US EPA as Community Relations Coordinator and holds a degree in Environmental Policy from the University of Maryland.

The Information Exchange team adds JEROME SIMPSON as an information specialist. Jerome comes to the REC from the Central European University's library. He has a degree in information science.

In a frenzy of hiring activity, REC Initiatives welcomes JUDIT SZIGETI to their team. Judit will update databases, supervise communication activity, and organize and conduct the team's numerous meetings and workshops.

Going

With heavy hearts the REC bids PAUL KOSTERINK adieu. Paul served a three-year term at the REC, first in the Information Exchange Team and then with the Local Office and Outreach Team. He returns to the Netherlands as Hungary project coordinator for Milieukontakt Oost-Europa.

Also on the way out are GENE GIBSON and ALEXANDER "SASHA" CHVOROSTOV. Now that the NREC Feasibility Study has been wrapped up, Gene will return to Washington, D.C. to continue his environmental law practice. Alexander will resume his post as senior lecturer in sociology at the Moscow State University of Culture.
