Canada, one of the REC's original donors, reappeared on the scene recently. DAVID MUELLER, program officer in the Policy, Planning and Multilateral Division, CEE Branch, visited the REC's Budapest office on his way home from Sofia. GREG KASTING, from the Canadian Urban Institute, followed up to iron out the details for future collaboration between the REC and the Canadian-based NGO he represents.

ERICH LIPPERT, the Czech Ministry of Environment's liaison with the REC, spent four days in Budapest getting acquainted with the REC's Regionwide activities.

From the Far East came NOBUTAKE ODANO, managing director of the Japanese International Cooperation Agency's (JICA) planning department. He met with the REC's executive director, Stanislaw Sitnicki, to get a better idea of what the REC is doing in Central and Eastern Europe.

A representative of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) made a courtesy call in September. IVAN MAJERCIN, accompanied by ERWIN HOFER from the Swiss Embassy, called to see how the OSCE and the REC could exchange information and cooperate.

BILL NITZE, Assistant administrator for international activities at US EPA, also dropped by after the Sofia conference. He took a peek at the Szentendre site and checked out the Business Information Service.

THOMAS PLUTA and ELIZABETH BLAIR from the World Environment Center (WEC) stopped by REC Head Office on a tour of CEE. The goal? To enhance cooperation in the areas of electronic information systems and environmental management training.
