Located in the little village of Lazy (pronounced Wah-zee) on the northern edge of the Carpathian foothills, the workshop is designed to bring foreign students together to focus on environmental degradation, resource management and socio-economic problems in southern Poland. The workshop combines classroom sessions with excursions to national parks, environmentally damaged industrial sites, and some of Poland's major cultural and historical centers.
Speakers include lecturers from the Jagiellonian University as well as guest experts from different agencies in the Region. The focus this year is threefold: the economic, social, and environmental effects of human activities on the region; methods for monitoring environmental deterioration; and ways of improving the quality of the environment.
You need not be an environmental activist to attend. An inquisitive mind, concern for the environment, and $500 (which covers accommodation, meals, excursions, and academic materials) are all you need to take part.
