Walk 5,500 km for Mother Earth

On 12 October 1992 For Mother Earth arrived at the United States' Nevada Nuclear Test Site after a journey that began eight months earlier in New York City. Its goal on the journey - to get the United States government to stop nuclear testing there - was realized when US President George Bush declared a moratorium on nuclear testing on 1 October.

Now the organization, which is dedicated to the creation of a nuclear-free world, is organizing a similar journey in Europe. Called the "Walk Across Europe for a Nuclear-Free World 1995," participants will walk 5500 km from Brussels to Moscow. They plan to visit many civilian and military nuclear facilities including Chernobyl. Through non-violent actions such as street theater, workshops, and petitions they hope to call attention to the dramatic medical, social, environmental, and economic consequences of atomic energy use. The journey will begin at European Union head office in Brussels on 12 January 1995 and will finish in Moscow on 12 October. For Mother Earth is looking for participants.
