Coming Up...
Slovensky Energeticky Podnik, the Slovak power company, recently
announced the details of its public participation program. On 8
December 1994, the company will release several hundred pages of
documentation including a project description, planned safety
improvements, an economic study (commissioned by the EBRD to determine
whether the project is a least-cost option for the expansion of the
Slovak energy supply system), and an environmental impact assessment.
The close of the comment period is 17 February 1995. The comments
will be carefully reviewed and presented to the EBRD Board of Directors.
An independent public participation expert will evaluate the public
participation process.
In early 1995 a public meeting will be held for the project sponsors
to hear public comments and to respond to public questions regarding the
project. If the governments of Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary,
Poland, and Ukraine decide to organize similar public meetings in their
countries during the public comment period, they may invite, through
the Slovak government, the project sponsors, EBRD representatives, and
project consultants.
The project documents will be available for public consultation at
various locations in the Slovak Republic, including the Mochovce
Information Center and the Slovensky Energeticky Podnik office, and the
embassies of the Slovak Republic in Vienna, Prague, Budapest, Warsaw,
Kiev, Washington, and London. Citizens of post-communist countries may
order copies of the project documentation in English or Slovak at a
price of USD 14 payable in local currencies or USD. Citizens of other
countries may order the documents for USD 140.
