Changes to REC Staff
Welcome:
Istvan Hegyi
REC Initiatives Project Coordinator
Istvan Hegyi joined the REC Head Office in June as a Project
Coordinator in the REC Initiatives Team. His main task is to coordinate
the Senior Fellowship Program where he organizes meetings and travel
for fellows, accompanies them to meetings, and often acts as
translator. Istvan will also be managing our Environmental Guidelines
for Local Authorities project.
Istvan graduated from the Technical University in Budapest and has
diplomas in Engineering of Technology for Telecommunications, Teaching
Engineering, and Economic Engineering and Foreign Trade. He has been
working as a project coordinator or project manager in the technical,
investment, and foreign departments of Medicor Works in Hungary for
the last 25 years.
Laszlo Perneczky
Local Representative for Hungary
Laszlo Perneczky (Pepe) is the REC's new Local Representative for
Hungary, and began work in October. As Local Representative, Pepe will
be working closely with Hungarian environmental NGOs and keeping close
day-to-day contact with them. He will be responsible for administering
the REC's Local Grants program in Hungary and for editing the monthly
Hungarian version of The Bulletin.
Pepe recently graduated from a course on non-profit advertising where
he learned how social and humanitarian organizations can communicate
their messages. Along with his new job at the REC, Pepe will continue
as coordinator of Alternative Network, an umbrella organization for
activist youth groups in Hungary. He also plans to continue as an
active member of the non-violent peace group Alba Circle.
Farewell:
Istvan Kosztolanyi
Istvan Kosztolanyi (Koszti) left his position as Local Coordinator
for Hungary this summer. He had been working at the REC since September
1992 and left to do his PhD at Budapest's horticultural university.
Good luck, Koszti!
