ECO Counselling network expanding
The environment movement is creating all kinds of interesting words.
We have eco-tourism, eco-terrorism, and eco-feminism. And we also have
"Eco Counsellors," members of a European NGO organization called Eco
Counselling Europe, founded in 1991. The separate Eco Counselling NGOs
in each country provide professional environmental advisors to anyone
in need. Now, they are branching out into Central and Eastern Europe.
At a recent workshop held from 19 to 30 September in Linz and Vienna,
Austria, 22 environmentalists from 11 CEE countries were informed about
the possibilities of extending this organization into their countries.
Participants in the workshop worked together to create clear and
detailed project proposals, valuable as an educational activity, and
visited local government offices and environmental firms to gain some
first-hand experience of how Eco Counselling works.
Eco Counselling is not just an advising organization. It is really a
network. Those who are members can take advantage of its extensive list
of Eco Counselling contacts in other European (including Central and
Eastern European) countries. They can attend training sessions and
conferences on current issues, get help in fundraising efforts, and
take part in other cooperation projects among several countries. Those
who have attended Eco Counselling activities say they see it as an
important initiative to get more professionalism and cooperation among
environmental NGOs in Central and Eastern Europe.
