New site allows world to follow
Johannesburg summit

A new web site, called the "Virtual Exhibition," is designed to allow people all over the world to participate in the upcoming World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg, according to the developers of the site: Business Action for Sustainable Development (BASD) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

According to the front page of the site, "By visiting this website at any time during the two weeks of the summit, you can see what is happening in Johannesburg or get a taste of what is happening in the wider world. If you have a sustainable development project to share with the world, you have found the perfect platform. If you want to be a part of the Johannesburg summit, you have found the perfect vehicle."

The Virtual Exhibition is to be broadcast live on big screens all around the summit venues in Johannesburg.

To find out how you can follow the summit, or to post information about an environmental initiative, see the site at: http://www.virtualexhibit.net/.

Web page covers environment of Baltic Sea

The Helsinki Commission, an organisation that oversees international cooperation to protect the Baltic Sea, has just launched a new web site, with information about the sea's environment.

The site, at http://www.helcom.fi, contains an excellent overview of the Baltic marine environment, and the human impact on that environment, as well as information about the Helsinki Commission itself.

REC web site: Gateway to CEE environment

The web site of the Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe (REC) offers a portal to environmental information in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). A new feature of the site allows users to search the REC’s library holdings on line. The site also offers:

  • A gateway for everyone: The web site of the REC is the best place to find out what you need to know about the region’s environment. Government representatives, business officials, non-governmental organisation activists, journalists or anyone with an interest in the environment of CEE can find out about local and national environmental policy, environmental performance of business activities, environmental financing, environmental civil society and the latest environmental news releases.
  • Databases: Nearly a dozen different regionwide databases help you find environmental experts, environmental NGOs, government officials dealing with the environment and other contacts and basic information about CEE environmental matters.
  • Coverage of 15 Countries: Country-specific REC publications, address directories, project information and Internet links to a wide range of national environmental resources are available.
  • REC publications: In addition to general information about the REC itself, you will find all of the REC’s publications, searchable directories and project information.

Find it all at: http://www.rec.org.
