UNEP opens climate change portal

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) has announced the development of a new climate change portal, designed to be the first stop for anyone looking for more information about climate change on the web.

According to an e-mail announcing the site:

“The Climate Portal is UNEP’s principal gateway to the most up-to-date information on climate change. It provides access to a great deal of newly released or updated information, including:

  • greenhouse gas emission graphs showing emissions by country
    (annex 1);
  • an interactive map service, showing national achievements towards Kyoto Protocol commitments;
  • the latest assessments from the world’s foremost scientific body dealing with climate change, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change;
  • an interactive climate model that lets web site visitors experiment with, and learn about, climate change;

REC web site: Gateway to CEE environment

The web site of the Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe (REC) offers a portal to environmental information in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). A new feature of the site allows users to search the REC’s library holdings on line. The site also offers:

  • A gateway for everyone: The web site of the REC is the best place to find out what you need to know about the region’s environment. Government representatives, business officials, non-governmental organisation activists, journalists or anyone with an interest in the environment of CEE can find out about local and national environmental policy, environmental performance of business activities, environmental financing, environmental civil society and the latest environmental news releases.
  • Databases: Nearly a dozen different regionwide databases help you find environmental experts, environmental NGOs, government officials dealing with the environment and other contacts and basic information about CEE environmental matters.
  • Coverage of 15 Countries: Country-specific REC publications, address directories, project information and Internet links to a wide range of national environmental resources are available.
  • REC publications: In addition to general information about the REC itself, you will find all of the REC’s publications, searchable directories and project information.
